In Search of the Extraordinary
Fourteen schools from around South Africa convened at DCS this week to define, discuss, and drive a restless pursuit for the extraordinary. These schools form the South African Extraordinary Schools Coalition (SAESC), a body that seeks to “implement necessary innovative educational change to deal with ongoing educational dysfunction” in South Africa.

Apple, MINI, Select DCS to Join iSchool Africa
While many South African educators and learners enjoyed their last days of the school holiday, nine teachers from DCS headed to iSchool at Apple’s headquarters in Sandton for intensive training in digital content creation. The seminar kicked off an exciting new era of teaching and learning at DCS, as the school formally joined iSchool Africa.

We have welcomed a learner into Grade 8 who suffers from the extremely rare ageing condition, Progeria. Ontlametse Phalatse will be a boarder at Dominican and we have already seen her experiencing the warmth and welcome that so many of us associate with this school.

Higher Marks for Matrics
Congratulations to DCS class of 2011 on a 94% IEB Matric pass rate. Distinctions up to 18 (from 4 in 2010), and B’s up to 51, with distinctions in Business Studies, French, Isizulu, Life Orientation, Mathematics and Sesotho.
